Arthur Brown, the new United States ambassador to Ecuador, met with Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld on Wednesday, June 19. During the meeting, Brown gave him copies of his credentials and they had a brief conversation, according to information shared by the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry.

In this dialogue, the diplomat «“He highlighted the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to advance bilateral cooperation,” as published by the United States Embassy in Ecuador on its social networks.

The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry added that Brown “highlighted the excellent level of bilateral relations.”

The new ambassador had already mentioned that “Ecuador is a strategic partner for the United States in South America, as democratic governance is under pressure throughout the region.

Arthur Brown takes over the Ecuadorian Embassy from Michael Fitzpatrick. He is a career member of the United States Foreign Service, with the rank of Minister Counselor. From 2021 to 2022, he served as Minister Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe. From 2020 to 2021, he served as Director of the USAID Mission in Zimbabwe.
