London: Reports of a new variant of Covid spreading in America and Britain. BA.4.6, a subvariant of Omicron, the covid strain, is widely spread.
In Britain, the prevalence of BA.4.6 was found to be 3.3% of samples since August 14th. According to the figures, there was an increase of 9% thereafter. The information regarding this was released by the UK Health Security Agency.
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the prevalence of the new subtype in the United States is about 9 percent. There are also reports of this variant being found in many other countries of the world.
BA.4.6 is the successor to Omicron’s variant BA.4. The BA.4 variant was first spotted in South Africa in January this year. It is estimated that the new variant was spread along with the BA.5 variant.
It is estimated that this is a variant that is produced by the recombination of two different variants that cause covid. Omicron prevalence was high but hospitalization and mortality rates were relatively low. The same situation is expected to occur in BA.4.6.
Recently, the World Health Organization has stated that the situation is not completely reversed and there are still covid deaths every 44 seconds.
Globally, reporting of covid rates and deaths continues to decline. It is very promising. But that cannot be said to continue. Weekly covid rates are down by 80% since February. But even then, since last week, deaths are occurring due to covid every 44 seconds – said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization.
He also said that most of the deaths are avoidable. Many people are probably getting tired of him saying over and over that the pandemic is not over yet. But he said that he will keep saying it till the end.
