A new animal-to-human transmission of Langya henipavirus has been discovered in Shandong and Henan provinces in China. 35 people have been affected by this virus.
The virus is named Longia henipavirus or Lewy. The virus was found in samples taken from infected patients in Henan and Shandong provinces in eastern China.
The spread of the new virus was confirmed by China’s state media The Global Times and Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

What is the effect on humans?
According to medical experts and researchers, the spread of hernipavirus has increased in Asia and Australia, mostly from bats. Longya henipavirus, newly discovered in China, is also a virus that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
People infected with this virus will experience fever, fatigue, cough, vomiting, loss of taste in food, body aches, nausea etc. Those infected with this virus may experience low red blood cells, low platelet count, kidney damage, lung failure, and death.

No vaccine
Currently there is no vaccine or preventive medicine for Henipavirus. Only those infected with the virus can be treated. At the outset, it is impossible to say that Longya henipa virus is the worst human-killing virus. Therefore, there is no need to fear, said Professor Wang Linpa of the Duke NUS Research Center.
However, as new viruses emerge from nature, it is necessary for humans to be alert and follow safety measures, researchers said.
