New York Jets’ Juggling of Quarterbacks Continues with Zach Wilson Reluctant to Return: TruMedia Stats and Injury Risks

by time news

The New York Jets are considering making another quarterback change, with Zach Wilson hesitant to take on the role, according to sources.

Wilson, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, had initially taken over the starting quarterback role when Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Week 1. However, after struggling in the role, he was replaced by Tim Boyle for the Week 12 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Boyle’s performance also left much to be desired, leading to Trevor Siemian being given playing time in Sunday’s Week 13 game against the Atlanta Falcons. None of the quarterbacks have been successful in lifting the Jets offense, which has struggled to perform in recent weeks.

The Jets have scored four offensive touchdowns in their last 88 drives and rank 30th in scoring for the season. This has led to the team hoping for Wilson to reconsider and return as the starting quarterback.

Despite Wilson’s previous struggles and benchings, the Jets have acknowledged the challenges faced by their young quarterback. Head coach Robert Saleh mentioned that Wilson had come a long way, and that the team wishes they could have been better for him.

The team had initially planned for Wilson to spend the season learning from Rodgers, before the latter’s injury forced Wilson into action. Despite some initial success, the Jets have struggled in recent weeks.

As the situation unfolds, the team is dealing with uncertainty at the quarterback position and hoping for a resolution, with Saleh indicating that they will address the situation in the offseason.
