Jets Hold Players-Only Meeting in Effort to Turn Season Around
The New York Jets are in the midst of a tough season, with the team sitting at the bottom of the league with just eight offensive touchdowns in nine games. After two consecutive losses and a lack of offensive production, the Jets decided to take action.
On Tuesday, the team’s off day, the Jets held a players-only meeting to address their struggles on the field. Wide receiver Garrett Wilson spoke about the meeting during his appearance on ESPN New York radio, emphasizing the importance of the players taking ownership of the situation.
“The guys talked, and we had the floor,” Wilson said. “It was just us. We got to make sure we’re all on the same page about where we’re at and how the hell we get out of this funk, man. That was really the message. When it comes from one of your teammates, it always hits different. It always resonates a little bit more.”
Jets coach Robert Saleh has also acknowledged the need for changes, but the team has decided to stick with quarterback Zach Wilson and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Wilson has struggled this season with a passer rating ranking 30th in the NFL.
The only change made so far has been the release of running back Michael Carter. The team is also dealing with uncertainty around starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who continues to discuss a potential return this season.
Despite the challenges, the players are hopeful that the team meeting will help turn their season around. Wilson expressed the team’s remorse for their offensive struggles and their commitment to making a change.
“We don’t want to finish the season and look back like we should’ve done this earlier… so let’s talk about it now,” Wilson said. “Hopefully, it leads to results, but the reality of us doing that and doing the right thing as far as calling a players-only meeting and talking, it doesn’t guarantee anything. We still have to go out and do it, but we’re taking the right steps and we’re turning over every stone because it matters to us.”
As the Jets look to improve their performance on the field, the players are taking proactive steps to address the challenges they are facing in hopes of turning their season around.
