The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, visited the Rebbe’s tent in Lubavitcher on Sunday, to mark the Rebbe’s Tuesday, Tammuz Hayarzeit. Rebbetzin Chana is the mother of the Rebbe, and of Rebbetzin Chaya Moshka, the Rebbe’s wife.

During the visit, the mayor said that this was not his first visit to the Rebbe’s grave to ask for a blessing. “When we have hard times, we go to spiritual leaders to ask for blessings. It’s a connection between the natural and the spiritual,” said Mayor Adams. “I was here when I was running for office in a difficult moment,” the mayor said, “I came here then to ask for a blessing.”

“To come here today to ask for a blessing and say thank you, it is significant to stop in the places of those great men and women throughout our history who have blessed us with their presence,” he said. “No matter what faith you are in, the belief in the power of blessing is not related to a particular group, it is related to the largest race in life, and that is the human race.”

Congresswoman Yvette Clark also marked Tuesday, and issued a statement. Congresswoman Clark wrote: “Today marks 28 years since the death of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, as one of the top religious leaders of our time, the Rebbe established a global network of social and religious educational institutions that changed the post-Holocaust Jewish landscape. “He touched the lives of countless people and continues through his visionary teachings, and in the work of his emissaries whom he sent to bring light of Judaism to every corner of the world, we will continue to honor his amazing life for many years to come.”

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul also announced: “This weekend we are joining the Lubavitcher Chassidut in memory of the legacy of Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson, whose teachings continue to inspire millions around the world, may the Rebbe’s be remembered forever.”
