The Kiwis have named a 14-man squad for the two-Test series against Australia at home on Saturday (February 17). Mitchell’s name is there. Meanwhile, Kugelin got a chance to replace pacer Kyle Jamieson, who was sidelined for almost a year with a back injury.
Earlier, Mitchell withdrew from the second Test of the series against South Africa. It was then announced that Mitchell will not be part of the Test series against Australia and will be given a long rest to fully recover. But in the end he was quickly returned.
“He (Mitchell) is an important member of the team and his performances over the last 12 to 18 months have shown how much strength he adds to the Test team,” New Zealand chief selector Sam Wells said while announcing the squad. Daryl will be working on his rehabilitation over the next week and will be fit and ready for the first Test in Wellington.’
