Wellington: Under the Parent Resident Visa, New Zealand residents will now be able to keep their parents with them permanently. Visa rules say that you can live permanently with a New Zealand citizen or resident child, provided they earn enough money and agree to keep you with them. The process of parent resident visa involves submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI). If it meets the requirements, then an Invitation to Apply (ITA) is issued by Immigration New Zealand (INZ). ITA-eligible persons can apply for residence within four months. The cost of a parent resident visa starts from NZ$ 3180. More than two lakh people from India live in New Zealand, so Indians will directly benefit from this.
According to Financial Express, INZ can approve a maximum of 2000 visas every year to those who submitted EOIs before the announcement of the resumption of selections on October 10, 2022. A maximum of 500 visas can be granted in a year to those who submit EOIs on or after October 10, 2022. These EOIs are selected through a draw. If someone has submitted an EOI under a parent resident visa before October 12, it can be withdrawn or updated.
What are the conditions for visa
The Parent Resident Visa resumes on October 12, 2022 with different requirements for sponsors. Applicants will now need to earn 1.5 times the New Zealand average wage. Two adult children can now jointly live with a parent, not just an adult child and their partner. Other requirements for the Parent Resident Visa have not changed.
To apply for a parent resident visa, you must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). If INZ selects your EOI, INZ may invite you to apply for residence. INZ selects EOIs from a draw by ballot every 3 months. Selections take place in February, May, August and November and are usually held on the second Tuesday of the respective month.
