Ulm beat bottom-placed SC Freiburg II and can no longer be pushed out of the top three places in the 3rd league. The winning goal is preceded by an unseen handball.
SSV Ulm has taken the next big step towards the 2nd Bundesliga. The front-runners achieved a 2-1 (0-0) win on Sunday against SC Freiburg II, who had already been relegated from the bottom of the table, thereby consolidating their first place. Thanks to the away win, the Ulm team are still on track. Their lead over the promotion relegation place is seven points three game days before the end of the season.
The guests started better, but only took the lead after the break through Philipp Maier (51st minute). Just five minutes later, Maximilian Breunig converted a hand penalty caused by Lennart Stoll to equalize. Ulm’s second goal was also preceded by a handball when receiving the ball. However, referee Nicolas Winter overlooked Tom Gaal’s offense (82′), who scored the winning goal.
This means that Ulm could repeat what SV Elversberg achieved last year: marching through from the regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga. Curious: Ulm may not be the only team that makes it through.
