News 24 | Global Health sounds the alarm about monkeypox and expects an increase in infections

by time news

The World Health Organization has predicted that more cases of monkeypox will appear globally.

The organization revealed that as of Saturday, 92 confirmed cases and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox had been reported from 12 member countries where the virus is not endemic.

She stressed that she will provide more guidelines and recommendations in the coming days to countries on how to limit the spread of monkeypox.

She explained that the information available to her indicates that transmission of infection from one person to another occurs between people who are in close physical contact with cases that show symptoms.

She pointed to the early genetic sequencing of a small number of cases in Europe indicating similarities with the strain that spread in a limited way in Britain and Singapore in 2018.

World Health Organization official David Heymann said it was “biologically plausible” that the virus was spreading outside endemic countries, but that it had not led to a major outbreak as a result of COVID-19 lockdowns, social distancing and travel restrictions.

He stressed that the outbreak of monkeypox is not similar to the early days of the “Covid-19” pandemic because it is not transmitted easily, stressing that there are vaccines available to it, and he called on those who suspect they have been exposed or who show symptoms, including rashes and fever, to avoid close contact with others. .
