New Delhi: Taking a big decision, the Modi government has withdrawn the Broadcasting Bill 2024. A new draft will be prepared after discussion. This new broadcasting bill brought by the government was introduced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in the monsoon session. After the introduction of this bill, tension had increased for individual content creators and digital broadcasters. It was drafted in November last year. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has given complete information about this from its official X handle.What did the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting say?
Withdrawing the Broadcasting Bill 2024, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that a draft of the Bill is being prepared. The draft Bill was put in public domain on 10 November 2023 along with explanatory notes to seek the views of the public and stakeholders (whom the law will affect). Suggestions/comments have been received on the draft from many people including various associations. The Ministry is conducting a series of consultations to discuss the draft Bill with stakeholders. Additional time is being given till 15 October 2024 to seek your views. A new draft will be published after detailed discussions.

It was presented in the monsoon session
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) had prepared the draft of the Broadcasting Bill 2024 in November last year itself. The deadline for public comment for this was till January 15, 2024. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav introduced it in this monsoon session. Digital news publishers and individual content creators are angry after this bill. Its second draft was prepared in July.
