The Chinese aircraft carrier Liang is reported to have conducted a full-scale military exercise in the Gulf between Japan and Taiwan. Japanese Defense Minister Nobo Kishi said the military exercise in Leoning took place between May 3 and 9. Exercises against Shenyang J15 fighter jets, helicopters and submarines were also conducted as part of the military exercise.
In April 2021, the Liaoning aircraft carrier moved out of the South China Sea with other warships, exacerbating the crisis with Taiwan. Meanwhile, Chinese warships approached the U.S. Theodore Roosevelt Fleet at sea, raising concerns.
