/ The Iraqi Basketball Federation announced on Monday that the capital, Baghdad, will host a match for the West Asian Championship, “Wasl,” bringing together the Iraqi Oil Club and its Lebanese guest, Al-Hikma.
Al-Ittihad Media Director, Ahed Faleh, told Agency, “The People’s Sports Hall in the capital, Baghdad, will host an important match in the second round of the (Wasl) Basketball Championship at 6:45 p.m. next Thursday between Al-Naft and Lebanese Hekma.”
He stated that “the teams participating in the tournament were divided into two groups. The first included Al-Ittihad Aleppo, Al-Naft Al-Iraqi, Lebanese Al-Hekma, and Iranian Gorgan clubs, while the second included Al-Wahda Al-Syria, Lebanese Al-Riyadi, Al-Ahly of Jordan, and the Palestinian Orthodox.”
He pointed out that “the teams play in a league manner, each group separately, with the first team from each qualifying directly for the semi-finals, while the second team in each group plays with the third team in the other group, so that four teams qualify for the semi-finals.”
Al-Ittihad Al-Ahly Aleppo team defeated Al-Naft Al-Iraqi with a score of 79-72 points, in the match that brought them together on the grounds of Al-Hamdaniya Hall in Aleppo in the first round of the first leg of the West Asian (Wasl) International Basketball Championship for the men’s category.
