Next to the club: The sailing association against the Haifa municipality

Uniform front. The chairman of the sailing association, Shai Buber, sided with the Haifa sailing club, which is in danger of closing due to a dispute with the municipality. “The sailing association supports the Haifa sailing club, which is the third largest in the country,” Buber told the sports channel.

Buber continued on the same line. “We have been doing a blessed activity for years together with children’s activities on the autistic continuum and we are trying to speak to the mayor’s heart that will resolve this story and give Haifa Cruises a back-to-back commitment like what it has with the Israel Ports Company,” said the cruise association chairman. “If you give the same agreement, the same period of time, permission to participate on the beach, there is no reason that in a city like Haifa, where there are people who lead the club on a full-time basis, there will be no such maritime activity that also produces champions. “Only now has the European Under-15 Windsurfing Championships started in Sardinia and there are three children from Haifa,” he added.

The chairman of the Sailing Association detailed the sources with whom he spoke on the subject: “I contacted all the relevant institutions, including the Minister of Sports, Hili Trooper, and the chairman of the Olympic Committee, Yael Arad, to help us. The sailing association will not allow the sailing club in Haifa to close. ”

As you may recall, after several months of negotiations between the sailing club and the municipality, last week the Haifa municipality sent a notice of eviction to the sailing club. This announcement surprised the Haifa club’s representatives because contacts have been underway for months to regulate the club’s continued activities on the quiet beach in Haifa.

The sailing club has been operating on the quiet beach for almost 12 years, and now the municipality is demanding the signing of a new agreement, which includes a clause that allows the club to cease operations with 30 days’ notice. The concern of the sailing club is that the new agreement is worded in a way that will allow the municipality to evacuate it in a legal way, for improper reasons, in order to build a private mooring there.
