Next week at the Rainbow Coast: The Israeli Hip Hop Festival returns for the sixth time to Ashdod South here

For three days – between the dates of September 20-22, there will be performances of the vav festival – an international Israeli hip-hop festival – on the beach of the bows in Ashdod. The festival celebrates the unique hip-hop and breakdance culture that grew in District V in Ashdod, after which the festival is named.

The program of the festival events:

Tuesday, 20.9

16:00 – Itech DJ set.

17:00 – Flash mob: a mass dance in collaboration with the studios and the audience led by Lior Kogan.

In a flash mob, the goal is to involve everyone – local and non-local dancers, studio bands, children and adults alike, thus creating unity – and one of the prominent principles of hip-hop culture.

17:30 – Dance competition for studios – there are a large number of schools, studios in the field of hip hop in our city of Ashdod and its surroundings. We invite all the hip hop bands of Ashdod and the surrounding area to take part and compete in the festival.

18:30 – Konkshain final – Konkshain community is a community of young rap artists throughout the country. These days there is a competition in the group, where we invite the artists to upload rap pieces and participate in a competition carrying a cash prize and exposure of the artists at the festival.

19:00 – Uri Shohat – For years, producer and DJ Uri Shohat (44) has been a central pillar of the Israeli hip-hop scene. He produced countless artists and raised generations of male and female rappers in his studio. From early productions to Subliminal (“The Final”) to Dodo Farouk (“Eliran Savag”) and Ravid Plotnik (“The Rap King of the Middle East”), Uri Shohat has been providing hits for the scene and beyond for years, and always remains refreshing and connected to the most current sounds in the world, long before Everyone.

Shochat is a close producer of artists such as Michael Suisa, Lukach, Peled, Norouz and more, and there is no doubt that he has played a large part in the rise of Israeli hip-hop in recent years. Every significant hip-hop artist at some point in his career has been with Uri Shohat – and therefore the scene spread the saying that the audience shouts every time he is on stage: “Shohat, thank you”, or “Shochtoda” for short, which is also the name of Shohat’s new album, a collaborative album A huge action in which the best names of Israeli hip-hop meet to pay homage to the beats of a local legend, among them Tona, Michael Suisa Ravid Plotnik, Eden Derso, Cohen, Sima Nun, Teddy Ngusa, Peled and many more.

19:40 – Rockstar drive carefully Kfar – a tribute show to ‘Nomi’ – the late Noam Cohen, at the hip-hop festival. An event you cannot afford to miss! “Nomi” was a well-known figure mainly in the hip-hop scene and was killed in a motorcycle accident in October 2021. Since then there is no one who has not knows or speaks of the person who was and the music that created and left behind one album, “Rockstar, Atonement” In the tribute show, his mother and brother, his personal manager and other artists will take the stage, and will perform songs from his album and not only – in an exciting and bouncy evening with the words that predicted the future in another segment.

20:40 – Screening of the movie ‘What will change’: script and director: Solomon Chakol, born in 1993 in Ethiopia. Grew up in the city of Ashdod, graduated from the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem 2015-2020. The plot of the movie ‘What Changed’ deals with Shai, a soldier returning home with a package of food supplies from the army, determined to celebrate Passover with his family. He refuses his friends’ offer to go out on Seder night. A family secret disrupts his plans.

Wednesday, 21.9

16:00 – DJ Vitao’s set.

Graffiti workshop led by Itay Nebat. An experiential drawing session using only spray.

17:00– Allstyle competition. Judges: Dean Partosh, Biboy Swat Batal (Batu) Malko.

Allstyles competition – a dance competition intended for duos consisting of dancers from different styles belonging to “street dances”. Each couple in the screening phase will put on a show and only 8 couples will perform and perform dance battles until the finals.

Performances:

19:00 – David Lev Ari – David Lev Ari the afrobeat artist who recently released his debut album “Returning Home” which was recorded as a success and played on the various radio stations. Coming to us for an immersive performance in African style.

19:45 – Big Sazo Act – producer, rapper, musician and actor. Collaborated with leading artists throughout the scene in Israel, he comes to us for a show with his new album “White Bird”.

20:30 – Viv Ish – one of the most promising rappers in Israel has collaborated with many artists from the hip-hop scene. Comes with his new album “Aliya” which has already been recorded as a success for a fascinating show.

21:00 – Shazamat band at a Shazamat concert, have you already been? Welcome to a show that will impress you and make you feel like you are in the final game of the World Cup because no one keeps the audience in the air more than them.

Thursday, 22.9

16:00 – Set Di. Jay Rabbit.

A dance workshop led by Hagar Weizman – a dancer and teacher who specializes in freestyle. She has knowledge in popping, house, ballet, modern and more. Participated in freestyle competitions in Germany, Japan, Korea and Vietnam.

A master class led by Yuval “Doda” Niyazov – at this pub – came to bring us the Ashdod voice. Niyazov, rapper, writer, composer, creator and producer of songs for over 10 years. He founded the hip-hop group “Mavou HaDodaim” and together they performed all over the country. Today he is embarking on an independent journey with a debut album soon.

17:00 – Breakdance competition – judges: Biboy Potter, Biboy Riddle and Biboy Tricky. Breakdance threes – a breakdance dance competition intended for threes only that includes a show of abilities for screenings and 8 threes that will perform dance battles until the final stage.

19:00 – Liad Meir hosts Ron Hayon – Liad, winner of the TV show “Beats” hosts the prodigy of Israeli hip-hop Ron Hayon.

19:40 – Aiello- After participating in the ‘Goldstar’ project, collaborated with Eliad Nahum and was part of the hottest dancehall hit of 2021 “Union Reeds” is coming to perform at the VAV festival.

20:20 – The introduction of the Dodaim – the hottest Ashdod group in Israel! Yuval – Duda, Idan Raz, Almog Gozlan and Avior Kush burn everything they step on – from a lamp with Plotnik to you at the beach of the rainbows.

21:00 – Buzzy B – The rapper and creator Buzzy B is one of the candidates for the range in Israeli rap after a round of performances with the debut album Tatka. Deserves to lift the place with an extraordinary hip-hop show.

VAV takes place as part of the community project ‘Eshdod Creative Space’ which operates on behalf of the Municipality of Ashdod and the Municipal Society for Culture, to make quality culture and art accessible, while promoting local artists in the public space. In the festival the partners of the local creators, the Ashdod creative space, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the unit for veteran neighborhoods and the manager of the beach strip marina.

“The VAV festival celebrates the unique hip-hop and breakdance culture that grew in Ashdod’s 5th district,” said Meir Abergil, a member of the city council and in charge of creative space.
