Every year, HIV prevention points throughout Latvia participate in the activities of the European Testing Week in order to promote the awareness of Latvian citizens about the need for HIV and hepatitis tests and the importance of early detection of infection. Since these infectious diseases can remain unnoticed for a long time due to non-existent symptoms and signs, it is important to check your health by taking a test, the LETA agency was informed by SPKC.

Taking express tests at the points is free, anonymous and confidential, besides, the visitor receives a specialist’s consultation before and after taking the test. You can find out the test result after 20 minutes.

“A few drops of blood are taken from the finger, and after 20 minutes the result is ready. It is a very simple, convenient and fast way to check the status of HIV, hepatitis B and C. We recommend that sexually active people take such a test once a year,” says Kristīne Ozoliņa, senior health promotion coordinator of SPKC’s Disease Prevention Department.

Currently, a total of 28 HIV prevention points operate in Latvia, of which 27 points perform express testing in different Latvian cities. In addition, as part of the testing week, field testing will also be held at Latvian higher education institutions, social services, and shelters, thus ensuring an even wider availability of testing for the population.
