Nextcloud Hub 5: A self-hosted digital workspace powered by AI for an ethical and productive experience
Nextcloud Hub, a comprehensive cloud productivity solution, has unveiled its latest version, Nextcloud Hub 5, which stands out for its ethical approach and AI boost. Unlike external online services, Nextcloud Hub allows users to have their own server and ensures transparency in the training model and data through the Ethical AI initiative.
This new version offers a number of applications, such as Deepl and ChatGPT, that provide AI-based translation, image generation, and text generation services. These apps can be installed from the Nextcloud store and offer additional options for those who want to take advantage of artificial intelligence in their workflows.
Among the new features and improvements in Nextcloud Hub 5, circles and group folders stand out. Circles are custom groups that members must accept an invitation to join, while group folders are owned by a group rather than an individual, with their own storage quota.
To make workspace management easier, Smart Picker has been introduced, a feature that allows you to easily link other resources like Deckboards or the related knowledge base. In addition, the Related Resources features have been improved to make it easier to find and share information with the group. You can also create tags to organize files in the Files view of the service.
Tags are now visible in mobile apps, and the ability to automate actions based on tags and other factors has been added. For example, you can configure a chat message to be posted when a change is made to a file in a specific folder. Tags can also be used to protect files by defining who owns them and where they can be accessed from through access limitation policies. To prevent manual tagging errors, Nextcloud is implementing a content-based auto-tagging feature.
Client-wise, the iOS version has improved by allowing direct playback of videos via URL, supporting group folders, and playing videos in MVK and AVI formats. For its part, the Android client offers a new detailed view with activity and file sharing options, as well as the ability to set tags to organize work.
The desktop client has introduced automated file locking, which detects when a file has been opened locally and locks it on the server to prevent editing conflicts. Along with this, improvements have been made to the user interface, including new sharing settings and performance improvements.
