Neymar unlocked his goal counter with the Saudi club Al-Hilal on Tuesday, during his team’s victory (3-0) against the Iranians of Nassaji Mazandaran in Tehran counting for the Asian Champions League.

With a strike from the left in the 58th minute, it was the Brazilian’s first goal in five matches under the colors of his new team.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker, recruited in August for 90 million euros, scored the second goal of the Saudi victory at the Azadi stadium. In the 18th minute, former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic opened the scoring with a header and substitute Saleh Al-Shehri secured the victory in stoppage time.

Both teams had to play most of the match with ten men, after the expulsions seven minutes before half-time of Saudi captain Salman Al Faraj and Amir Houshmand, both for violent behavior.

With this victory, Al-Hilal, four-time winner of the competition and finalist last year, takes the lead in group D. The Saudi club played in Iran the day after the cancellation of the meeting between the Saudis of Al-Ittihad and the Iranians of Sepahan, after a controversy surrounding the presence near the Iranian team’s field of a statue of General Qassem Soleimani, killed by the Americans in January 2020.
