In the AFC Championship Game, Patrick Mahomes and Co. won 17:10 (17:7) against the Baltimore Ravens and are reaching for the historic title defense. The New England Patriots last achieved this in 2004 and 2005. Travis Kelce in particular excels and breaks records.

In the big showdown on February 11th, the Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers, who won 34:31 in a dramatic game against the Detroit Lions for German star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

St. Brown’s Super Bowl dream is shattered

At halftime, the German had one foot in the Super Bowl. His team led comfortably 24-7 in San Francisco. Although St. Brown didn’t have a touchdown and ended up with 87 yards, his fellow running backs in particular dominated.

But just as the 30,000 fans in Detroit began to dream of the first championship in franchise history at the public viewing in their home stadium, the game turned completely around.

Within the third quarter, the entire 17-point lead was gone. After a field goal, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy found his receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the touchdown and 17:24, then Purdy passed to George Kittle a little later to equalize.

San Francisco, the best team of the regular season, was now unstoppable. With another field goal and another touchdown from Elijah Mitchell, they extended the lead to 34:24.

Only shortly before the end Detroit reduced the lead to 31:34 again through Jameson Williams. But because the onside kick failed, the 49ers made it to the Super Bowl.

Kelce is chasing more playoff records

Travis Kelce previously had an outstanding day. The Chiefs tight end has finally written his name into the history books. He broke the record for most catches in the playoffs.

Mahomes found his favorite passing spot for eight yards in the first half and made a decisive contribution to Kelce’s 152nd playoff catch, and he even had 156 at the final whistle.

The 34-year-old has broken the previous record set by perhaps the best wide receiver of all time, Jerry Rice. Rice was drafted in the first round by the San Francisco 49ers in 1984 and won three Super Bowls with legendary quarterback Joe Montana.

Kelce already has his sights set on another Rice record. With 19 touchdowns in the postseason, he is only three behind the Hall of Famer.

The Chiefs star probably won’t break the record for most receiving yards in the playoffs. Rice has 2,245 yards there – clearly ahead of Kelce, who now has 1,816.
