Nice: a man suspected of preparing an attack placed in police custody

Was he planning an attack? A man was taken into police custody this Friday in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). He was arrested in the morning at his home, as part of an investigation opened by the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) for “individual terrorist enterprise” and “violation of weapons legislation in connection with a terrorist enterprise”. noted BFMTV.

Aged 29, according to France 3, the individual was “unfavorably known” for “minor” offenses and monitored for his radicalization. He allegedly claimed, during an online exchange, to have a weapon and to consider committing the act, specifies BFMTV.

Alerted by these comments, the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI) searched his home in Nice and found a “rather old” weapon, as well as cartridges.

Up to 96 hours of police custody

Due to the seriousness of the suspicions, police custody can last up to 96 hours. It is now up to investigators to determine the suspect’s motivations and the degree of the threats.
