Nico will continue to grow playing on loan at Valencia

BarcelonaNico González will play under Gennaro Gattuso this season. The Blaugrana midfielder, aware of the strong competition in the Blaugrana first team, has agreed to go on a loan to Valencia for a year after talks between the two clubs and after receiving a call from the Italian coach, who has made it clear to him that he sees him as headline every weekend. At the age of 20, the Galician footballer spoke with Xavi Hernández to try to find out what role he would have this season at Camp Nou. The coach from Valais made it clear to him that he has a lot of confidence in him but that he could not guarantee that he would always play in a team with footballers of the level of Pedri, Gavi, Busquets, De Jong, Kessie or a Pjanic who is increasingly looking closer to staying when recently it looked like he would pack his bags again. So, Fran’s son, the great idol of Deportivo de la Coruña in the 90s, has agreed to a one-year transfer to a top-level team in order to continue growing as a professional.

Barça, however, want to make it clear to Nico that they trust him for the future and are already talking to his representative, the Portuguese Jorge Mendes, to extend his contract for one season, from 2024 to 2025. Nico would leave for Valencia without purchase option by a club that has just sold one of its biggest stars, the Portuguese Gonçalo Guedes, but that cannot make large investments in terms of signings. Gattuso had asked to strengthen the midfield to be able to aspire to European competitions. And the solution for all parties has been the transfer of Nico.
