Nicolás Maduro called to “break relations” with WhatsApp, claiming that the messaging app is used by opposition groups to threaten their supporters in Venezuela.
In a speech to the outskirts of the palaceMaduro said that “I am going to break relations with WhatsApp. Because WhatsApp is being used to threaten Venezuela. And so I’m going to delete my WhatsApp from my phone forever. Little by little I’ll move my contacts to Telegram, WeChat (…) “WhatsApp out of Venezuela!”

This, while the Attorney General of Venezuela announced the opening of a criminal investigation against María Corina Machado and Edmundo González for their calls to the Armed Forces and the Police to not follow Maduro’s orders and recognize the opposition victory.
González and Machado argued that the opposition candidate defeated Nicolás Maduro with 67% of the votes, giving him an advantage of nearly 4 million votes, while the National Electoral Council stated that Maduro was re-elected with 51%.
