Nicole Eleftheriadou Announces Retirement from Water Polo: A Heartfelt Farewell to Olympiacos

by time news
In a decision that no one expected, apart from her family and Olympiakos, Nikola Eleftheriadou, at the age of 26, decided that it was time to “close the chapter of my athletic career.”

Nikola played all her years wearing the jersey and cap of Olympiakos, from whom she was acquired in 2015.

“That’s why I’m not crying because it’s over. I’m smiling because it happened,” commented the Greek water polo player, who also gave her all with the National Women’s team at the recent Olympic Games.

Detailed is Nikola Eleftheriadou’s post:

Sometimes words are not enough to convey a story in its entirety, and I feel that whatever I write below is impossible to reflect what I experienced with you over these nine wonderful years.

I remember it like today, the day I signed my first contract with Olympiakos. I had great anxiety and just as much anticipation for my new beginning, but how could I have imagined that it was just the beginning of such a big and beautiful chapter in my life.

How could I have imagined that this huge club—synonymous with the passion for victory and an tireless pursuer of peaks—would not only grant me incredible successes but also shape me as a person. That it would teach me to claim, not to be afraid, and to consider nothing unattainable.

Now that the time has come to close the chapter of my athletic career, I dare not imagine a more ideal ending. Having conquered everything with Olympiakos and primarily the right to consider it my eternal family.

The decision to “hang up” my cap is entirely conscious and finds me more fulfilled and complete than ever. That’s why I’m not crying because it’s over. I’m smiling because it happened…

I owe a huge thank you to the President of the Amateur Olympiakos, Mr. Michalis Kountouris, for his belief in me and for our excellent collaboration. I would like to thank all my coaches, the assistant coaches, the team manager, and our physiotherapist throughout these years. They all helped me reach where I dreamed of.

The biggest thank you from the bottom of my heart belongs to my teammates. Together we created lifelong memories and celebrated every title in Greece and Europe! It’s amazing what can happen when a team comes together.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the Olympiakos fans, from whom I have received so much love. You were always there and you all have a special place in my heart.

Thank you Olympiakos!
