Nicole Kidman Reflects on Winning Oscar After Divorce from Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidman recently opened up about the bittersweet moment she won her Oscar in 2003, shortly after finalizing her divorce from Tom Cruise.

The Australian actress, 56, won her first Academy Award for her role in “The Hours,” just after she and Cruise, 61, officially ended their 11-year marriage. Kidman shared these reflections in a new book, “50 Oscar Nights,” by author Dave Karger.

Struggling with the personal challenges of her divorce, Kidman recalled the emotional night she accepted her Oscar, revealing that she ended up alone in her hotel room before midnight, reflecting on the need to find love in her life.

Additionally, Kidman shared that her big win came just after her highly-publicized divorce from Cruise, a relationship that captivated fans. The pair wed in 1990 and split in 2001, and share two adopted children, daughter Isabella, 31, and son Connor, 28.

Despite the personal struggles she faced, Kidman eventually found love again and married country music star Keith Urban in 2006. The couple shares two daughters.

Looking back, Kidman revealed her unique approach to communication in her marriage to Urban, explaining that they only communicate via phone calls and never text each other.

While Kidman has yet to win another Oscar since her 2003 win, she did take home the Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role in “Being the Ricardos” in 2022.

Kidman’s reflections on her Oscar win offer an intimate look into the emotional turmoil she faced at a time of professional triumph and personal struggles.
