If an officer gives the password of the National Identity Card (NID) correction software to his subordinates, the concerned should take responsibility. Password theft or any other excuse will not work in this case.

On Monday (August 12), the Election Commission (EC) recently issued such a warning to all field officials to prevent NID fraud. NID Branch System Analyst Mohammad Ariful Islam has sent the instructions in this regard.

It has been said that field level senior district and upazila election officials have been given the opportunity to download voter list and print NID card using NID-2 software.

The instructions also state that the password is stolen or out of the software, such statements will not be taken into consideration.

Allegedly, some officials are sharing user ID, password and one time password (OTP) provided with the operator of his office to download voter list and print NID card, essentially giving the operator an opportunity to commit crime. At this opportunity employees may have corrected the NID from the Card Management System (CMS), for which the officer will be responsible. As the official shared his password and OTP. Because, the user ID, password of NID-2 software and the user ID password of CMS (NID correction software) are the same. If any offense is committed as a result, the officer will be held responsible.
