Niger: Emmanuel Macron condemns “a deeply dangerous coup”
Ouagadougou, July 28, 2023(AIB)- The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on Friday described the coup against Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum as “deeply dangerous against a courageous leader”.
“France absolutely condemns, with the greatest firmness, this military coup against a democratically elected, courageous leader who is doing for his country the reforms and investments he needs, and whom we support, as we accompanied his predecessor (Mahamoudou Issoufou, editor’s note) from the start.
This coup d’etat is perfectly illegitimate and deeply dangerous for Nigeriens, for Niger and for the whole region, ”said Emmanuel Macron, according to several French media.
As a reminder, the head of the Nigerien presidential guard, General Abdourahamane Tchiani overthrew President Mohamed Bazoum on Wednesday, accusing him of the continued deterioration of the security situation.
