Niger: Government denies ‘crude lies’ of coup (spokesperson)

The government of Niger denied, this Friday, February 17, “malicious” messages and “montages of grotesque images” on social networks tending to “make believe that a coup d’etat is perpetrated in Niger”, perhaps we read in a press release from the minister spokesperson for the government, transmitted by the press service of the Nigerien presidency.

“The government wishes to deny these crude lies which are distilled through archive images … the objective is to sow Psychosis in public opinion”, continues the text signed by Minister Tidjani Abdoul Kadri.

The statement wishes to reassure the national and international opinion “that no demonstration has been recorded in this direction, Niger is resolutely engaged in a trajectory of consolidation and strengthening of democratic achievements.

“The government spokesperson informs that the competent services of the State have been instructed to “identify the authors, co-authors and accomplices of these malicious messages”.

For a few hours in the day this Friday, social networks have been flooded with these messages, according to the authorities.
