A recent global passport evaluation conducted by the travel platform eVisas.io outlines the current international mobility landscape for Nigerian passport holders. Beyond the 54 destinations offering electronic visas, the assessment indicates that Nigerians can travel to 26 destinations without a visa, while five countries provide visas on arrival.
An eVisa allows travellers to apply for and obtain a visa electronically instead of going through the traditional paper-based process. As eVisas.io stated, For the remaining 125 countries, a traditional visa application is required before departure.
The extensive list of 54 destinations providing eVisa access spans multiple continents, featuring prominent travel hubs and regional partners. The destinations include the United Arab Emirates, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Albania, Angola, Bahrain, Burundi, Bahamas, Bhutan, Botswana, DR Congo, Colombia, Cuba, Djibouti, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Guyana, Hong Kong, Iraq, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Madagascar, Mauritius, Maldives, Malawi, Malaysia, Namibia, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Palau, Qatar, Singapore, Sierra Leone, Suriname, South Sudan, São Tomé and Príncipe, Thailand, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vietnam, Samoa, South Africa, and Zambia.

South Africa operates an online eVisa system through its Department of Home Affairs. Applicants can create a profile, complete the application online, upload supporting documents and make payment electronically. The South African government says the eVisa is an electronic document linked to the traveller’s passport and serves as an alternative to obtaining a traditional visa through an embassy or consulate. Applicants using the online system must meet the country’s eligibility requirements and use designated airports for the eVisa programme.
In Asia, Cambodia lists its eVisa category with a stay of up to 30 days indicated for the eVisa category, and the eVisa should be obtained before travelling and presented according to Cambodia’s entry requirements. Malaysia is also listed among destinations providing an electronic visa facility to Nigerian passport holders, with a 14-day stay indicated. Qatar and the United Arab Emirates also maintain online pathways. The United Arab Emirates offers electronic visa application routes for eligible foreign travellers, although the exact process depends on the applicant’s circumstances and visa category. Nigerian travellers should pay particular attention to the applicable eligibility conditions because UAE entry-visa rules differ according to nationality, visa type and other circumstances.
Other African nations utilizing electronic routes include Equatorial Guinea and Djibouti. Passport Index currently lists Djibouti as offering both an eVisa and visa-on-arrival option for Nigerians, though travellers should check Djiboutian authorities’ current requirements before applying, including passport validity, supporting documents and permitted duration of stay. In Latin America, Ecuador and El Salvador also appear on current passport indices as electronic visa destinations for Nigerians. For Nigerians specifically, Rwanda has confirmed that the country has long provided a 30-day visa-free arrangement to Nigerian citizens. Therefore, Nigerians travelling to Rwanda generally do not need to apply for an eVisa for a short visit.
