“Night Court” in its renewed version is simply an empty program

by time news

John LaRocket, the misanthropic public defender Dan Fielding, remains from the original hit series. He, and a certain grace that somehow lingers in the air, and that’s it. The role of Judge Harry Stone is taken by his daughter (Melissa Roach), the only one besides Fielding to have some decent text put into her, and everything else is a platitude. An old American product, full of corny jokes, faded court clerks spewing witticisms in bunches, and inexhaustible amounts of recorded laughter.

That’s a shame. If the troublemakers at NBC had bothered to get this far, to set up the set, to cast actors, directors and photographers, they would have invested a few more dimes in advance thought and slightly better scripts, and thus they would have kept so and so viewers. And because they didn’t act like that, they are going to lose a lot of viewers and your investment, and that’s obvious. Because “Night Court” in its renewed version is an empty program. And why would anyone watch an empty program?

Watch or give up: apart from the excellent idea that can be implemented in Israel – a night court here as well, to lighten the load in the courts, there is no reason to watch the series, and it’s a shame.
