Bologna Virtus won the match for the “eighth place” in the EuroLeague playoffs on Friday against Baskonia of Vitoria on the road.
She defeated Anadolu Efes basketball players 67:64 (21:23, 14:13, 13:14, 19:14).
At the beginning of the match, it seemed that “Anadolu Efes” will blow away the opponents with a rain of points – Will Clyburn, who scored five long shots in the first five minutes, led the Turks ahead. The Istanbul club enjoyed a double-digit lead halfway through the quarter, but then the picture on the field began to change.
The home team started throwing the ball into the opponent’s hands rather than into the basket, and Virtus took advantage of this and got closer and trailed by just two points after the first ten minutes – 21:23.
Having started the confrontation with a powerful attack, the Turks began to fall more and more into the traps of “Virtus” defense – “Anadolu Efes” attacks became static, which allowed the guests to constantly stick to their opponents.
After the first half of the match, the teams were separated by a point – Anadolu Efes led 36:35.
The changeable and nervous fight continued in the second half of the match. In the fourth quarter, Virtus continued to stick to its plan and began to move away from its rivals.
With 3 minutes to play before the end of the quarter, the visitors were ahead 64:57.
The decisive attack of “Anadolu Efes” turned into a flop at the end of the match – Sh. Larkin missed an important free throw, played irresponsibly in the next attack, and Gabriel Lundberg extended Virtus’ march for a ticket to the Euroleague playoffs with a three-pointer.
The showdown for the last ticket to the Euroleague playoffs will take place in Bologna on Friday.
The Euroleague season of the Istanbul team, which suffered a defeat at that time, ended with this match.
