The brightness drops rapidly. The steps are hesitant in the climb. The tiptoe making sure of the possibilities of a ground sometimes earthy, sometimes stony, in a steep slope which only accepts hikers. Cars are stored lower. At Espérelles Hautes, in Lozère, at more than 600 meters above sea level, the perfectly unobstructed view is a reward. The gaze embraces the forest of the Cévennes, which extends to infinity. It covers the valleys with its centuries-old chestnut trees, which hid and fed the guerrillas during the Second World War.
