Nikkei: Japan plans to use 5G points to charge gadgets over the air

Japanese mobile operator SoftBank intends to test the technology of wireless transmission of electricity from points of mobile communication, reports Nikkei Asia, citing its own information. The development will allow wearable devices such as headphones and smartwatches to be charged simply by walking next to the base station. According to Nikkei, SoftBank plans to place the equipment in 5G base stations. Remote charging will initially be tested indoors, with the company hoping to expand it to outdoor stations from 2024.

SoftBank is in the process of upgrading its 4G base stations to 5G.
