Nikki Haley, the only candidate left in the race against Donald Trump in the presidential primaries in the Republican Party, suffered a shameful defeat tonight when she lost in the Nevada primaries, in which the former president did not participate at all.
Haley received 31.7 percent of the vote in the non-binding primaries held in Nevada, with the “none of the candidates” option coming in first place with 61.8 percent, evidence of voters’ preference for Trump to be the nominee.
The former president himself will participate in the voting meetings that the Republican Party in Nevada will hold tomorrow, in which Haley will not participate, when Trump is expected to win easily and scoop up the 26 delegates that the state sends to the party convention that will determine the presidential candidate.
Haley’s campaign has made it clear that they are focusing on the upcoming primaries later this month in South Carolina, where she served as governor, as well as the Super Tuesday vote next month. “We haven’t spent an ounce of energy on Nevada,” said campaign manager Betsy Ankeny. “We decided at an early stage that we would not pay $55,000 to Trump’s entity to participate in a process staged in Trump’s favor.”
On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden won the Nevada primary as expected with 89.4 percent of the vote, with “none of the candidates” in second place with 5.8 percent, while writer Marian Williamson finished with 2.8 percent.
“Democrats in Nevada represent the backbone of our nation: union workers who build the middle class, immigrants who came here in search of opportunity, and families of all kinds who deserve respect, personal freedom and a fair shot at the American Dream,” Biden said. “Tonight they showed us all – we still live in America where everyone is treated with respect and fairness. No one is left behind.”
