Donald Trump said today that he is not considering the former candidate for the presidential nomination of the Republican Party, Nikki Haley, to be his running mate in the November elections, denying a report by the news site “Axios”, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
“Nikki Haley is not being considered as a possible vice presidential candidate, but I wish her well!” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Haley, a former South Carolina governor and former US ambassador to the United Nations, in March ended her run against Trump in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Haley accepted that Trump, who has repeatedly downplayed her candidacy, would be the Republican nominee, but did not endorse him.
There is already a long list of potential candidates for the vice presidential position that includes North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, South Dakota Gov. Kristy Noem, Sens. Marco Rubio, Tim Scott and J.K. D. Vance and House of Representatives member Elise Stefanik.
Burgum and Scott originally ran against Trump for the Republican nomination. Noem was embroiled in controversy after revealing in a memoir that she shot a 14-month-old dog because it was unruly.
Trump is in no rush to choose a vice presidential candidate. He will not be formally nominated until the Republican convention in Milwaukee, Wis., in July.
On November 5, Trump will face Democratic President Joe Biden in the election for the next head of state of the United States.
