Deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) made a transphobic speech today in a speech in the Chamber. Since 2019, transphobia is a crime and can be punished with up to three years in prison.
On International Women’s Day, he went up to the plenary of the Legislative House, put on a blonde wig, and said that today he “feels like a woman” and is “deputy Nicole”.
Women are losing their space for men who feel like women. For you to have an idea of the danger that this is, they are trying to impose a reality that is not reality.
Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), federal deputy
What did he say?
Deputy stated that he was not only defending his own convictions, but the right of “a father not wanting a 2-meter-tall grown man to enter his daughter’s bathroom without being considered a transphobic”.
Nikolas Ferreira already responds for transphobia. Since February of this year, the deputy has been liable for racial slurs after calling deputy Duda Salabert (PDT-MG) “he”. Duda is a trans woman.
“He’s a man. That’s what’s on his certificate, regardless of what he thinks he is,” Ferreira said in an interview in December 2020, when both were city councilors in Belo Horizonte.
