He admits that he stabbed her, but he did not want to kill her

35-year-old Nikolay Kurtev from Septemvri, accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in a hotel in Pazardzhik, has not appealed his remand order, “24 Chasa” has learned.

On July 30, the District Court ordered “detention in custody”. Kurtev had the right to appeal to the Appellate Court in Plovdiv, but his official defender Ivan Glavchev has decided that it is pointless.

“There is no court that would let him go under these circumstances. His past is very difficult, he has previous convictions. I told him that even if it were his father, there is no way to let him go,” commented the lawyer.

Kurtev’s 29-year-old ex-girlfriend, who hails from the Plovdiv village of Trivodici, was killed on July 27. The manager of the hotel where the woman was found filed a report after finding her bloodied body in the corridor. She was found to have died from 4 stab wounds.

The suspect Nikolay Kurtev was found and detained at the home of his relatives in the village of Dragor. The knife was found in his possession. The man is an old acquaintance of the police and has been in prison several times. He was released last year.

“He admits that he stabbed her, but claims that he did not want to kill her,” explained lawyer Glavchev. His defender told him how 3 days before the incident, he filed a complaint that the 29-year-old woman had left their home, and for nearly 2 months, Nikolay had been taking care of their child by himself. The deceased woman has 3 more children. “He didn’t recognize it, but he’s sure it’s his,” the public defender said. Kurtev heard a rumor that his ex was a prostitute. He claims that he even called to “order it” and it came to a standstill.

In view of everything, lawyer Ivan Glavchev believes that it makes no sense for Nikolay Kurtev to be transported to Plovdiv and back only to hear that he remains in custody.
