Since September 1st, Bernhard Benka has been Head of Public Health at the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES). He succeeds Franz Allerberger, who has retired. Benka grew up in Linz and has a colorful vita: After studying medicine in Innsbruck, she went on six stays abroad, five of which for Doctors Without Borders in Africa, Latin America and India. At the end of 2015 he was hired as a department head at the Ministry of Health, and in July 2021 he moved to AGES.
