The curfew for minors under 16, unaccompanied, in four Nîmes districts is extended until Monday, August 18.
Nîmes, France. The city of Nîmes has extended its curfew for unaccompanied minors under 16. This measure, first put in place on July 21, will now last an additional 14 days, until Monday, August 18.
Mayor Jean-Paul Fournier stated that the situation has not improved. “The situation unfortunately does not allow the curfew to date,” he explained. “It is essential to extend the system in order to protect populations as much as possible, and particularly the youngest.”
The decision to extend the curfew was made in coordination with state services, citing “circumstances of dangerousness and insecurity which still threaten.”
Respect for the curfew will be enforced by both state and municipal police. “This is a preventive measure intended to protect minors, prevent them from being exposed to current violence, and contain tensions,” the city’s press release noted.
The curfew currently affects the districts of Mas de Mingue, Chemin-Bas, Valdegour, and Pissevin. Richard Schieven, the assistant delegate for security, emphasized the commitment to the safety of inhabitants. “We call for strong and coordinated responses, carried by all public actors, to actively fight against the Narcobanditism which pollutes the daily life of the Nîmes of these districts,” he said.
