Nine more foreign non-governmental organizations from 15 countries have joined the COP29 NGO Coalition.

As reported by Day.Az on Wednesday, the second hybrid meeting of the “COP29 NGO Coalition” took place on July 29 via Zoom.

At the meeting, representatives of foreign and local civil society held extensive discussions on the topic of inclusivity. At the invitation of the Azerbaijan National NGO Forum, the UN High-Level Leader on Climate Action for COP29 Nigar Arpadarai and COP29 Youth Climate Advocate Leyla Hasanova attended the meeting as guests and answered questions.

Currently, 123 foreign NGOs from 39 countries are represented in the “COP29 NGO Coalition”. Local NGOs are represented by the Azerbaijan National NGO Forum, which is the national umbrella organization in the coalition.

The forum’s board chairman, Ramil Iskenderli, said that in recent days foreign NGOs from Norway, Spain, Romania, Sri Lanka and other countries have joined the coalition.

“Applications continue to come in. In our opinion, this is a very unique platform.

The coalition also includes 39 NGOs from 9 Constituency groups, which unite NGOs that have observer status at the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change,” he added.
