Backwards compatible and 8-inch display: An accessory manufacturer reveals details about the successor console to the Nintendo Switch. These are the details.

The console accessories manufacturer “Mobapad” has revealed numerous details about the Nintendo Switch 2 on its website. As a hardware developer, you have access to “a lot of first-hand information,” the company writes.

Accordingly, the successor console will simply be an improved version of the Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 should still be able to be controlled via Joy-Cons and the additionally available Pro Controller.

Nintendo is also relying on physical data storage media for its new console. The cartridges of the current switch also fit into the slot. It doesn’t work the other way around. All digital versions of the games are also compatible with the new console, writes “Mobapad”.

Additional buttons on the Joy-Cons?

Instead of attaching the Joy-Cons to the console via rails, as is the case with the Switch, the new controllers are held magnetically. In addition to the previous side buttons, there is an additional button. Another function key has also been added to the front of the controller below the home button.

With improved performance, the console will get 4K output when the device is connected to the TV, it said. The Switch only managed a Full HD resolution (1080p). The Switch 2 can now do this in handheld mode, where the previous console only supported 720p.

Speaking of the screen: According to “Mobapad”, the Switch 2 will have a larger 8-inch screen than the previous console. The normal Switch has a 6.2 inch screen. The display of the OLED version is 7 inches.

The magazine does not provide any further information. As usual, there is no confirmation from Nintendo as to whether the information is correct.

Switch 2 could not come until 2025

The company probably doesn’t want to bring the Switch 2 onto the market until March of next year, the Japanese news magazine “Asia Nikkei” learned from unnamed sources. The original plans called for a market launch at the end of 2024.

The reasons for the delayed start of sales: Nintendo wanted to give game developers more time for their titles and ensure a sufficient number of consoles for the market launch, it was said.

When the company first released the Nintendo Switch in March 2017, the number of consoles produced up to that point was not sufficient.

The result was that the devices were offered at completely inflated prices on sales platforms such as Ebay. In addition, there were only three games developed by Nintendo when the console launched.
