The PlayStation 5 was the first console to surpass Nintendo Switch in U.S. sales in nearly three years. This is reported by a marketing company NPD Group.
PS5 became the leader both in the number of copies sold and in revenue. Overall, PS5 is the top-selling console of 2021 in terms of revenue, while Nintendo Switch leads in terms of units sold. In July 2021, Sony announced that it had sold over 10 million PS5s.
Nintendo Switch held the lead for a cumulative 33 months. Switch was also the top-selling console in November 2020 when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S hit the market. New consoles were in short supply due to the global semiconductor crisis.
