Dustin Nippert (43), considered one of the best foreign pitchers in KBO League history, is holding a retirement ceremony.
Doosan Bears announced on the 6th that they will hold Nippert’s retirement ceremony during the home game against KT Wiz at Jamsil Stadium on the 14th.
Nippert, who signed with Doosan in 2011, had a record of 102 wins, 51 losses, 1 hold, and an ERA of 3.59 in 214 games over 8 years until 2018.
He is the longest-serving foreign player in history and the only one to achieve 100 wins and 1,000 strikeouts.
Nippert went 22-3 with an ERA of 2.95 in the 2016 season, leading Doosan to the regular season championship and winning the regular season MVP award.
In 2022, he was the only foreign pitcher selected for the 40th Anniversary Legend All-Star Game of Professional Baseball.
Nippert, who played for Doosan until 2017, retired after playing one season for KT Wiz in 2018.
Nippert is still living in Korea after retirement. He runs the ‘Big Dream Youth Baseball Team’ and appears on various broadcasts, including JTBC’s ‘Strongest Baseball’.
The theme of the retirement ceremony is ‘REMEMBER THE ACE’. It contains the meaning that Nippert will be remembered as an eternal ace by Doosan fans.
Before the game, Nippert will hold a fan signing event and throw out the first pitch.
Before the game, the national anthem is sung by the Big Dream Little League Baseball players.
After the defense in the top of the first inning, Nippert reenacts his signature ‘high five with the players during the changeover of offense and defense.’
During the cleaning time, both teams present Nippert with gifts such as a commemorative picture frame, and the event ends with a ceremony after the game, including a video screening, a hang-up, and a reading of a letter from Nippert.
Nippert said, “I am honored to be wearing the Doosan uniform and standing on the mound at Jamsil Stadium for the first time in seven years. I sincerely thank the Doosan organization for allowing me to hold such a grand event,” and “I will continue to do my best so that I can always be remembered with a good image by the fans.”
