New Delhi: The Union Transport and Highways Minister made a big revelation on Saturday. He said that before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a senior opposition leader had approached him and offered him the post of Prime Minister. However, he had rejected it outright. Nitin Gadkari revealed that during a journalism award ceremony in Nagpur. He said that on the offer of the PM post, I told that leader that I am a person who follows an ideology and conviction. I am in a party that has given me everything that I had never even dreamed of. No offer can tempt me.
When Gadkari turned down the offer of PM post
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari did mention the incident of getting the offer of the PM post. However, he did not elaborate on it. He did not even reveal the name of that opposition leader. He definitely said that a senior opposition leader had contacted him before the 2024 general elections. When it was believed that the BJP may not get an absolute majority and it may need the support of some opposition parties to form the government. Responding to the offer of that leader, Gadkari said that I have been brought up with some principles and convictions. I will not compromise on them.

When the leader of Uddhav’s party gave an ‘offer’ to Gadkari
Nitin Gadkari has made this disclosure about 3 months after the completion of the Lok Sabha elections. However, on August 21, 2023, a statement by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vinayak Raut came to light, in which he invited Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to join the opposition alliance ‘India’. Vinayak Raut had said that his party would try to make Gadkari the next Prime Minister. He also claimed that the central leadership of the BJP sees Gadkari as a contender for the post of Prime Minister and is conspiring to end his political career.
‘Gadkari should join India Alliance’
Vinayak Raut, a leader of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, had made an offer to Nitin Gadkari while speaking in Hingoli district of Maharashtra. He had then said that Gadkari is a capable leader towards whom the state and the country look up with great hope. He is a strong contender for the post of Prime Minister, so the central leadership of BJP wants to destroy him. At that time the Shiv Sena leader had said that there are many people in Maharashtra who respect Gadkari. I believe that he should not succumb to such pressure, rather he should join the ‘India’ alliance.
BJP had retaliated on Vinayak Raut’s comment
Shiv Sena leader Vinayak Raut had said that Nitin Gadkari, why are you afraid? Come to the ‘India’ alliance… We will not rest until you are made the Prime Minister. Uddhav Thackeray will also support you. On Raut’s comment, BJP retaliated and made fun of the offer made to Nitin Gadkari.
