Breaking alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar, state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today (August 09) submitted his resignation letter to Governor Baku Chauhan.

Subsequently, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi met Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Tejashwi Yadav for the second time at his residence and again met Governor Bahu Chauhan to form the government with his support.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) emerged as the single largest party in the 2022 assembly elections. In that election, BJP and Nitish Kumar’s united Janata Dal alliance won 125 seats.
Bharatiya Janata Party won 74 seats, United Janata Dal won 43 seats, Vikasheel Insan Party and Hindustan Awam Party won 4 seats each.

The coalition formed the government by capturing the 122 seats required for a majority.
Nitish Kumar took charge as the first minister of the state. In this election, the opposition parties won 110 constituencies.

Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal had won 75 seats. Congress had won 19 constituencies and the Left had won 16 constituencies out of 29 constituencies.

Azaduddin Owaisi’s party had won all 5 seats. 4 more MLAs joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal. This took the strength of the Rashtriya Janata Dal to 79.

Currently out of total 242 constituencies BJP (77), United Janata Dal (45), Secular Hindustan Awam Morsa (4), RJD (79), Congress (19), Communist of India (M-L) (12), Communist Party of India (4) ) and an independent one.

A member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal has passed away. His place is vacant. Late Ramvilas Paswan’s Lok Janashakti Party has got one seat.

In this election, Bharatiya Janata Party got 19.5 percent votes, United Janata Dal 15.4 percent votes, Rashtriya Janata Dal 23.1 percent votes and Congress 9.5 percent votes.
