Patna: In Bihar politics, the word ‘Khela’ has now become an important part of political culture. Khela has been taking place in Bihar politics from time to time. But, it has gained momentum since the beginning of 2024. When Nitish Kumar broke away from the Mahagathbandhan (now ‘India’) and became a part of the NDA, RJD leader and former deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav gave impetus to the Khela culture by saying ‘Khela hoga’. However, he did not succeed in the game he talked about. Despite this, the word ‘Khela’ has become so deeply ingrained in the minds of RJD leaders that they repeatedly talk about Khela in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar is the boss of the game!

In 2013, BJP announced Narendra Modi as its PM face in the 2014 parliamentary elections. Nitish Kumar did not like the face of Narendra Modi. He broke the relationship with BJP since 2005. However, after breaking ties with BJP, he tried his strength alone and saw its result in 2014. JDU then got only two seats out of 40 in the Lok Sabha elections. When Bihar assembly elections were held in 2015, Lalu Yadav included him in the grand alliance on the condition of making him the CM. This had a pleasant result. The NDA government that lasted for more than a decade in Bihar was replaced by a grand alliance government. Lalu also made Nitish Kumar the CM as promised. Nitish Kumar played the game again for the second time. In 2017, he broke away from the grand alliance and formed a government with BJP. In 2022, Nitish played the game again and broke ties with BJP and became a part of the grand alliance. By 2024, he changed his mind again and by joining hands with BJP, he again played the game. That is, Nitish Kumar continued to be the boss of the game in Bihar. However, the real news is yet to come.

Then Tejashwi gave the slogan ‘Khela Hoga’

As soon as Nitish Kumar formed an alliance with BJP, Lalu and Tejaswi made a strong strategy. Tejaswi gave the slogan ‘Khela Hoga’. Lalu Yadav knew that the Mahagathbandhan has 114 MLAs. If some MLAs of the ruling party betray, then RJD’s intention will be fulfilled. For this, Lalu had also made arrangements for four-five MLAs including JDU’s Bima Bharti. Tejaswi put RJD MLAs under house arrest, while Congress, a constituent of the Mahagathbandhan, put its MLAs in Hyderabad. RJD leader Awadh Bihari Chaudhary refused to leave the post of Speaker as per Lalu’s strategy. Nitish Kumar had to get the trust vote on February 12 and before that the vote division for the Speaker was fixed. RJD’s plan was to defeat Nitish in the vote division for the Speaker’s post itself. To destroy RJD’s pre-declared game, Nitish played the opposite game by breaking its MLAs.

There is a buzz of the game being played again in Bihar

RJD has still not given up hope of a game being played. In some way or the other, RJD is trying to pit Nitish against BJP and include him with them. However, this task does not seem easy at the moment. But, the way RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari is claiming political upheaval after Pitru Paksha, it seems that RJD has not yet given up hope of a game being played. Mrityunjay Tiwari’s claim also seems to have strength because why did Nitish Kumar feel the need to give clarification on his movement here and there out of season? When the CM attended the program with JP Nadda, he clearly said that he had made a mistake in between, but now there is no question of going with those people. Analysts who smell the game in this believe that only those who are suspected or accused give clarification. Nitish has a thief in his mind, that is why he said this out of season.

‘Anything is possible after Haryana-Maharashtra elections’

Experts believe that Nitish Kumar never liked the core agenda of BJP. After forming the government for the third time, PM Narendra Modi took many such decisions which were against Nitish’s wishes. Firstly, JDU quota ministers did not get important portfolios in the Union Cabinet. Secondly, the Wakf Board Amendment Bill is against Nitish’s wishes. The lack of reservation in lateral entry also irks Nitish. Things like special status to Bihar, not including the reservation law in the Ninth Schedule would surely irk Nitish. But, Nitish Kumar will hardly show any hurry for this. Even if he has some game in mind, he will wait till the results of Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections come out. If the results go against the NDA, then he can repeat his traditional game of changing sides.
