Patna – With the support of BJP, Nitish Kumar will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the seventh time. NDTV reported that party sources informed that the swearing-in will take place on Sunday. BJP will have two Deputy Chief Ministers. The Assembly will not be dissolved or an election held. Ahead of the swearing-in, Nitish will dissolve the grand coalition government led by him.

Nitish Kumar has canceled all programs including public meetings on January 29. After leaving the NDA alliance in 2022, Nitish joined the RJD and became the chief minister and is once again a part of the NDA. Nitish’s move came amid assessment that the central government’s announcement of the Bharat Ratna to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur is a precursor to the restoration of the BJP-JDU alliance.

Amidst rumors that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may recommend dissolution of the assembly, there is a flurry of political maneuvering in Bihar. The leadership of its ally Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is counting on whether it can get rid of Nitish’s Janata Dal United (JDU) and form a majority. If the JD(U) pulls out, the Grand Alliance is short of 8 MLAs to have an absolute majority as per the current legislative strength.

Nitish Kumar directed JDU MLAs to reach Patna immediately. This is a precautionary measure to prevent RJD from falling. The announcement of the Bharat Ratna by the central government to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur is considered to be a precursor to the restoration of the BJP-JDU alliance. Nitish Kumar may stay out of Bihar border reception for Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.

RJD chief Lalu Yadav held talks with loyalists Bhola Yadav and Shakti Singh Yadav to assess the political situation. Party MLAs also visited Lalu. Former JDU President Lalan Singh and Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary met at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence. BJP state president Samrat Chaudhary and Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Chaubey were summoned by the party central leadership to Delhi.

Meanwhile, RJD President Lalu Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya responded to Nitish’s indirect criticism of family rule in RJD through social media. Rohini’s argument was that some self-proclaimed socialist teachers change ideals with the wind. Even though the post was withdrawn, the BJP came forward with a complaint that Nitish had been insulted.
