Kochi: After a long hiatus, a coup result in the election held in the star organization Amma. Maniyan Pillai Raju, Vijay Babu and Lal defeated the three candidates fielded by the official panel. Nivin Pauly, Asha Sarath and Honey Rose, who competed as part of the official panel, lost.
Asha Sarath and Shweta Menon were contesting for the post of Vice President of the Official Panel. When Maniyan Pillai Raju contested on his own and the result came, Maniyan Pillai Raju won the coup. Asha Sarath failed. With this, Shweta Menon and Maniyan Pillai Raju will take over the post of Vice President.
Baburaj, Laina, Manju Pillai, Rachana Narayanankutty, Sudhir Karamana, Surabhi Lakshmi, Tinitom, Tovino Thomas, Unni Mukundan, Nivin Pauly and Honey Rose contested from the official panel for the 11 – member executive committee. Vijay Babu, Lal and Nasser Latheef came forward to contest against them. When the result came, nine members of the official panel won. Nivin Pauly and Honey Rose failed. When Lal and Vijay Babu won the coup, Nasser Latif, who had contested as a rebel, lost.
For the past several years, there have been no elections in Amma. In previous years, many people were ready to compete, but it is common to avoid last minute consensus. But this time, four people, including Maniyan Pillai Raju and Lal, were contesting, rejecting the pressure-consensus move. Some of the comments made by actor Siddique on his Facebook post ahead of the election were controversial. Maniyan Pillai Raju and Shammi Thilakan came out against this.
Actor Siddique posted on Facebook two days ago. These are the last lines of Siddiqui’s Facebook post seeking votes for the candidates on the official panel.
“Members can decide who to elect. None of these people claimed that their mother made them. None of them claimed heroism that the foundations of Amma’s headquarters would be shaken. Those who believe that they are the most suitable person to be the head of the mother and do not know how to sign the nomination given to contest for it. They are not the ones who cheated her by promising to give her the land she did not have … ”
Maniyan Pillai Raju said before the General Body this morning –
Siddiqui’s post against the opposition is not the right thing to do. There is strong opposition to this. Siddique did a very bad thing. The fact that the competition is taking place has created a stir in the organization. The election in Amma is taking place after a long time. Even those who are silent when they see each other at the shooting location are now calling and asking for votes. I did not humiliate anyone and ask for a vote. I am competing.
Shammi Thilakan’s Response –
Siddique’s comment on social media was meant for me. Siddique said this out of guilt. I have no allegations of torture or Me Too allegations or embezzlement of my mother’s funds. Then I am qualified to be the head of the organization. Amma has always been a one-party organization. He showed his own morality by making such a reference. I am the only person who rejected the nomination without signature. So everyone will understand that the reference is about itself. This issue will be raised in the General Body. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. The mother is always under the control of a section. This has even happened before the former vice president made a statement to the press. Siddiqui was mentioned and called by many. Many members, including office bearers, expressed support.
