Washington: On Wednesday (January 19, 2022), US President Joe Biden said his decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan was the right decision and that “I do not need to apologize for what I did.”
Speaking after completing one year in office, he said, “Leaving Afghanistan after 20 years has not been easy. It will never be easy to do this. I will not apologize for what I did.”
However, after the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in mid-August, Biden expressed his sympathy for the crisis in Afghanistan.
The US president said he was “saddened” by what is happening in Afghanistan as a result of the Taliban’s inability.
“I was worried about the people who were killed in the bombing at the airport in a terrorist attack,” he said.
Pointing out that his decision to leave Afghanistan was correct, Biden blamed the administration for the chaos and the failure.
“I have to admit that if we had not left, we would have had to send more troops there. The question is, do I care about what is happening there as a result of the Taliban’s incompetence? Yes, I do.” Said US President Joe Biden.

“There are different things around the world. We can’t solve all the problems,” he added.
“It’s not normal to come out of Afghanistan after 20 years. Do you think anyone can unite Afghanistan under one government? This country has been a graveyard of empires for a variety of reasons. Unity here is a very difficult thing,” he said.
He also pointed to the economic burden of Afghanistan on the United States. Citing the weekly cost of keeping US troops there, Biden said a peaceful solution to the problem was not possible.
“Even after realizing that there was no way to success and that we had to send more troops to stay there, the big question then was whether I should spend such a large sum every week,” said US President Joe Biden.
