The United Kingdom and its allies will not be able to send troops to Ukraine in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. Said UK Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace.
The report, signed by Wallace and his Ukrainian defense minister Oleksi Yuriovich Resnikov, states:
The United Kingdom will continue its long-standing commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Ukraine and support them.
Ukraine is not a member of NATO, so no one is going to send troops into Ukraine to challenge Russia. Instead, there are significant and long-term sanctions imposed against the Kremlin.
Already, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has warned Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A spokesman for Boris Johnson said on Monday that any attempt to destabilize Ukraine and other parts of the region was a “strategic mistake” with significant consequences.
Last November, officials in Kiev said heavy equipment, including 90,000 Russian soldiers and tanks, had been re-deployed near Ukraine. This sparked fears of a possible invasion.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry says Russia’s 41st Army units are stationed 260 kilometers north of the border.
