Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that Mirza Fakhrul Islam is trying to give political color to taking legal measures against terrorist forces by calling them mass arrests. No mass arrests are being made here.

Stating that no innocent person will be subjected to any kind of harassment, he said that action is being taken against the terrorists on the basis of concrete evidence. We will apply the law to the best of our ability to control the situation in the country. No criminal will be spared.

The general secretary of Awami League said this in a statement given to the media on Saturday (July 27).

He said, ‘BNP-Jamaat’s trained cadres gathered in Dhaka from all over the country on a mission of destruction and murder. These terrorists vandalized and looted Bangladesh Television-BTV building, bridge building, disaster management building, BRTA building, metro rail, elevated expressway and toll plaza of flyover, health directorate building, various government hospitals, police stations and police boxes.

Obaidul Quader said, ‘They have spread again by carrying out murders, assassinations and hellish destruction. Law and order forces are active to bring all these terrorists under the law. A judicial committee has been formed to properly investigate the incident of killings and destruction. Also, the police investigation is ongoing. No criminal activity committed shall remain beyond investigation.’

Obaidul Quader strongly condemned and protested BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s false, fabricated and politically motivated statements.

Awami League General Secretary said, ‘BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is adopting various deceptive tactics to avoid the responsibility of terrorism, violence and murder. The cadres of BNP-Jamaat armed themselves and carried out hellish destruction and fiendish killings in various places including the capital Dhaka.’

He said, ‘Such destructive activities are unprecedented in independent Bangladesh and it has created burning wounds in the minds of the people. BNP-Jamaat and its cronies cannot escape its responsibility in any way. Their armed terrorist forces entered the field with deep plans to carry out massacres. This carnage and destruction has been met with utmost patience and restraint on the part of the Government. The government did not want any loss of life.’

Obaidul Quader called Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s call for national unity as ‘unity of the spirit of liberation war and the unity of the anti-national evil forces’ and said, unity of extremism, militancy and terrorists! By calling for unity with Jamaat, BNP proved once again that the relationship between Jamaat and BNP is inseparable and anti-independence forces are BNP’s allies. This call for unity is a threat to the independence and sovereignty of this country.

The general secretary of Awami League urged the spirit of the liberation war and the democratic forces to unite against the anti-independence BNP-Jamaat under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
